Pushin' Tapes - David J ( Neo-Soul - The Pioneers )

Tapemasta: As you see, it's time to make it seems comfortable for the grown & sexy crew worldwide !! Step up people, go outside the box - because i've already have !!

David J: This mix is a tribute to the pioneers of the neo-soul movement. These were among the first group of artists to be marketed under this label. Although some of these acts did not appreciate the label, the term stuck. It also served the purpose of distinguishing these acts from the more slickly produced mainstream R&B acts. The "big four" artists of the neo-soul movement released albums in successive years - D'Angelo (Brown Sugar-1995), Maxwell (Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite-1996), Erykah Badu (Baduism-1997) and Lauryn Hill (The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill-1998) - and pushed the genre to what would be its highest heights. This mix also contains songs by acts whose first albums pre-dated the un-official beginning of the genre (Zhane, Tony Toni Tone, Me'Shell Ndegeocello) but contributed heavily to it.
